Miracles Beyond Miracles

My friend was wearing a shirt the other day that said, “I'm just here for the miracles!” I want that tattooed my my forehead! I can tell miracle stories for the last 30 years of The Light Center experience that continue to blow my mind years later! It would not have happened without the support of miracles coming in so many different forms. Right now as I navigate the recovery from a heart attack I am watching the miracles happening around me day by day!

I have been supported totally by Earth Angels this entire time. My son, my daughter and my granddaughters have been terrific and of course there was Trudy, the LMH volunteer, who truly did save my life. I am in awe and give major gratitude daily for how this has all unfolded. I will be staying in Lawrence for the next month, in a unit at Delaware Street Commons being generously contributed by a friend. That will make it much easier to get to doctor's appointments and cardiac rehab too. I have some dear friends who live at DSCommons, so I will have a support system right there as needed. It has been quite amazing to watch how much adjustment has been needed after this cardiac event and all of the many follow-up issues. I thought I would just bounce up and feel good to go afterward, but I continue to be depleted in so many ways. At first I was so surprised that both of my kids and two granddaughters arrived from Pennsylvania and Texas. It was not sinking in that I actually had a heart attack. I still thought of myself as a person with a strong heart with low BP & P all the time. It wasn't making sense. Then after I heard the report from the nice man who did the cardiac catherization, it started to sink in! And I have been so grateful ever since to have other people to advocate for me and assist me in every way.

I am remembering Tracy Kidder's book, Mountains Beyond Mountains, in which he describes the outreach work that Paul Farmer did to bring health care to people in underserved areas. His work was ground-breaking in addressing TB treatment and then HIV strategies. The title of that book basically described that endless path to address complex care issues, meaning that as you work hard to reach the top of the mountain, what you will see are more mountains beyond. I always thought a book describing Miracles Beyond Miracles might better serve our growth and learning. When I place my attention on the miraculous things that are happening day by day, I can find inspiration to keep going and to trust that miracles abound as long as I keep my focus on that.

Whatever challenge may be in your path and however steep the climb may seem, keep your eye on the miracles that lie right there on the horizon just waiting to greet you!

For me today on my 79th Birthday, I am so very grateful to be alive and to be surrounded by a most amazing support system.

Celebrating miracles beyond miracles with you.

-Robin
